19.8.2011: The pianist Alexander Schimpf has been awarded first prize at the International Piano Competition in Cleveland, Ohio (USA). In the final round, he played the Piano Concerto No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Wilkins. The competition in Cleveland not only honours its winners with the considerable sum of 50,000 US dollars, but also with a two-year engagement under the supervision of the competition committee, making possible numerous performances as well as a CD recording for the winners. Alexander Schimpf already won first prizes at the 2008 German Music Competition and the 2009 Beethoven Competition in Vienna. The debut album of the pianist with piano works by Mozart, Beethoven, Albeniz, Debussy and Sieber was issued in June 2010 by GENUIN.
