Two highly awarded German musicians present themselves on GENUIN with a powerful Shostakovich CD: The sisters Anouchka (cello) and Katharina Hack (piano) combine the early Cello Sonata, Op. 40, and a late work, the Viola Sonata, Op. 147. It is a fascinating experiment that not only takes into account the life of the Russian composer, but also focuses on his vital, rousing music. For Shostakovich's wonderfully sentimental Prelude for two cellos and piano, the sisters receive the support of an illustrious guest: the star cellist Gautier Capuçon joins in with a velvety tone.
"I assume that we will hear more from the two sisters after this successful debut," says music journalist Claus Fischer about Anouchka and Katharina Hack and describes the duo as a "discovery" and "an absolute stroke of luck". Review by Claus Fischer on MDR Kultur, June 2, 2020
Tagesspiegel / Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten
"Two harmonizing sisters, two extremely opposing works: how the cellist and the pianist encounter Shostakovitch's sonatas from 1934 and 1975 impresses with artistic maturity and passionate identification."
In "Die beste Musik im Sommer" Frederik Hanssen recommends the duo's CD in the category "Newcomer", Tagesspiegel & Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten of 14 June 2020
"Klassik Heute Empfehlung" with 10 out of 10 points in all three evaluation categories: "Sie spielen Schostakowitsch voller Energie, schnörkellos und ohne Berührungsängste. Unglaublich berührend..."
Review by Verena Düren in Klassik Heute, 18 June 2020
"With their youthful esprit as well as with a remarkable skill the sisters reveal the compositional quality of the works with playful virtuosity."
5 Star review by Uwe Krusch in Pizzicato, June 15, 2020
"Anouschka und Katharina Hack meistern dieses nicht einfache Programm bravourös. Sie stürzen sich mit einer Offenheit in die Stücke, zeigen genügend Sensibilität und Achtung vor den emotionalen Momenten dieser doppeldeutigen Kompositionen."
