Lucie Bartholomäi, Violin

Bartholomäi’s understanding of virtuosity includes carrying the audience away with her.
Freie Presse, Chemnitz, February 26, 2020

Lucie Bartholomäi is a young artist who, in addition to the standard repertoire for violinists, also enjoys performing lesser-known works. It thus comes as no surprise that she debuted with Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto, which was an outstanding success, receiving high praise from audiences and critics alike. By the age of ten she had already given concerts as a soloist with the Vogtland Philharmonie Plauen and the Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue. Repeated invitations to perform at festivals such as the Leipzig Bach Festival and the festival for the “Gebrüder raun Prize” testify to her artistic versatility.

In addition to her chamber music and solo appearances, she has won numerous prizes, including a series of First Prizes at the state and federal level of the “Jugend musiziert” competition and the 2019 Special Prize for her outstanding performance from the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art. Most recently she won First Prize at the “Grand Prize Virtuoso” international music competition in Vienna.

Lucie Bartholomäi is a scholarship holder of the Saxon Mozart Society and is sponsored by
the Handel-Mozart youth grant from the city of Halle. In 2016 she was appointed the youngest ambassador representing the Erzgebirge district.

Born in 2003, Lucie Bartholomäi began her musical training at the age of five. She was accepted into the gifted program of the State of Saxony from an early age and recommended to the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. She passed the entrance exam at the university as an eleven-year-old, and has been studying violin performance with Friedemann Wezel since then.

In addition to attending master classes at the Kronberg Academy and the Austrian Master Classes, she has gained further artistic impetus through studies with Andrea Eckoldt, Linda Hedlund, Hans-Werner Mehling and David Frühwirth.
