Peter Kuhn

Peter Kuhn studied conducting at the Hanover University of Music and Media. In 1990 he was a finalist at the 3 rd Berlin Conducting Course of the Fricsay Society, received a scholarship from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture and was awarded First Prize at the International Competition for Modern Theater in Tashkent.

In 1995 Peter Kuhn took up the position of leader of the orchestra at the Lucerne Theater for three years before being named General Music Director in Bielefeld in 1998. His work with the Bielefeld Philharmonic was awarded the German Publishers’ Association Prize for the best concert programming during the 1999/2000 season.

Concerts in Germany and in other countries with orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Korean Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra complement his work in Bielefeld.

In the 2008/2009 season Peter Kuhn made his debut with the Bergische Symphoniker and with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. From 2009 to 2019 he was General Music Director of the Bergische Symphoniker.
