The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie (DRP) was formed in 2007 through the merger of two orchestras, each with its own great tradition: the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra (SR) and the Kaiserslautern Radio Orchestra (SWR). Pietari Inkinen has led the DRP as chief conductor since 2017. Like his predecessors—founding chief conductor Christoph Poppen, Karel Mark Chichon and honorary conductor Stanisław Skrowaczewski, who passed away in 2017 – Pietari Inkinen’s trademark is, on the one hand, broad-ranging repertoire, including the most important Classical and Romantic works to overlooked or forgotten masterpieces, all the way to New Music. On the other hand, he has also introduced his own distinct themes to the repertoire of the DRP. The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie strives to off er concert programming that appeals to all generations, including lecture-concerts, pre-concert programs, and meet-the-artist concert previews. The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie performs its subscription concerts in Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern, with guest performances in neighboring France as well as in Mainz, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Baden-Baden. The Orchestra has toured Switzerland, Poland, China and Japan in recent years and is a regular guest in South Korea. The DRP can be heard not only in the concert hall, as part of cultural programming on Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) and Südwestrundfunk (SWR) radio, SR/SWR television, ARTE or on CD, but to an equal extent via its media streaming off ers and on its Deutsche Radio Philharmonie channel on YouTube.
