“A fascinating and cosmopolitan project” (Klassik.com)

The Ensemble Iberoamericano is dedicated to interpreting and conveying Ibero-American art music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In order to newly discover the origins, the wealth and the variety of this repertoire, the ensemble conceives very original projects, in which the compositions are presented in a thematic context. The goal is to create an interdisciplinary dialogue with literature, dance or video-art: the music becomes part of a broad cultural framework, stimulating reflection on subjects such as exile or the exchange between music and literature. This way, the projects invite us to explore the cultural relationships between Spain, Portugal and Latin America. The Ensemble Iberoamericano is comprised of musicians from various Latin American and European countries who studied and now work in Germany. The instrumentation includes classical (strings, winds, percussion, piano, voice) and sometimes traditional Latin American instruments. The Ensemble belongs to the association Música Iberoamericana, which, along with its communicative function of organising concerts, also maintains a data bank of over 100 Ibero-American composers with whom it collaborates. The association is located in the German city of Weimar and was awarded by the Thuringian Ministry of Culture in 2010 for its innovative concert formats and its contribution to the fostering of Ibero-American culture in Germany.
