Munich native Cornelia Ptassek completed a degree in Voice Performance at the Stuttgart and Rostock Music Conservatories and studied with Prof. Hanna Ludwig in Salzburg. After completing her studies, she received engagements for the roles of Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Frau Fluth (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor) at the Prinzregententheater in Munich as part of the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding and has also appeared at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She then became an ensemble member at the Theater Bremerhaven. She has made guest appearances at the opera houses in Flensburg, Bremen and Schwerin in the roles of Liù (Turandot), Marie (The Bartered Bride) and Helena (Transatlantik) by George Antheil. Since the 2005-2006 season, she has been a member of the opera ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. She has performed the roles of Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Liù (Turandot), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Cirene (Sofonisba), Dircé (Medée), Donna Anna(Don Giovanni), Gilda (Rigoletto) and Freia (Das Rheingold). She has been the recipient of prizes at the VDMK Competition, the Erika Köth Competition and the International Riccardo Zandonai Competition. In 2006 Cornelia Ptassek was awarded the Arnold Petersen Prize, which recognizes musicians who have demonstrated exceptional promise.
