The catalog of compositions by Stefan Heucke, born in 1959, includes over 120 works of all genres, including operas, oratorios, symphonies, concertos, sacred music, chamber music, and songs. His works are performed all over the world by prominent orchestras and soloists. Many of his works are available as CDs and radio productions.

His major opera Das Frauenorchester von Auschwitz (The Women’s Orchestra of Auschwitz) from 2006 was especially well received. Stefan Heucke has been composer-in-residence with several orchestras and international festivals. In 2016, the new Bochum Concert Hall opened its doors with Heucke’s cantata Baruch ata Adonaij – Gesegnet seist Du Herr (Baruch ata Adonaij – Blessed art Thou, Lord).

In 2017, on the occasion of the Luther year, his full-length Deutsche Messe for solos, choir, and orchestra was premiered in Berlin by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester and the Berliner Rundfunkchor. In 2021, Heucke received three commissions for two new operas and a St. Mark Passion for soloists, choir, and orchestra for the 2024 Bach Festival in Münster. Since 1996, Schott Music International has published Heucke’s works.

He lives alternately in Germany and Italy as a freelance composer.
