Konstantin Sellheim

Artist photo of Konstantin Sellheim - Viola

Konstantin Sellheim is currently one of the outstanding violists of his generation. As a member of the Munich Philharmonic, he has performed since 2006 under the baton of conductors such as Valery Gergiev and Zubin Mehta and is also involved in the orchestra’s board of directors. He made solo appearances early on in his career, including with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.

Concert tours take him throughout Europe as well as to the U.S., South America, China, Korea, and Japan, and also to major international music festivals such as the Beethovenfest Bonn, Vienna Festival, and Pärnu Music Festival.

Chamber music forms a significant focus of his career. In addition to his sister Katharina Sellheim, his partners include such diverse artists as Giora Feidman, Igor Levit, Helmut Deutsch, Nabil Shehata, Claudio Bohórquez, Daishin Kashimoto, and Michael Barenboim. He is also a founder and member of the Tertis Viola Ensemble, the viola quartet of the Munich Philharmonic.

His viola studies led him to Volker Worlitzsch, Hartmut Rohde, Nobuko Imai, and Berlin Philharmonic member Wilfried Strehle. Today Sellheim himself plays a decisive role in the training of a new generation of musicians, as a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts as well as a teacher of international master classes and tutor for the European Union Youth Orchestra.

His debut CD was released at the end of 2012 and features music by Robert Schumann, Paul Hindemith, and Rebecca Clarke performed as a duo with his sister Katharina Sellheim. In 2016 the Sellheim Duo released a joint CD Märchenerzählungen with clarinetist László Kuti.
