Born in 1964, Michael Schlechtriem enrolled to study at the Cologne Musikhochschule when only thirteen. His teachers included Radu Aldulescu, Ingrid Frohmüller, Boris Pergamenchikov, Gotthard Popp and the Amadeus Quartet. He became a member of the Sinfonieorchester Münster in 1993 while also continuing to pursue a solo career. He has also performed on various CDs, on radio and television as well as taking an abiding interest in unjustly forgotten compositions. He performed the Russian premiere of the Arnold Bax and Alan Rawsthorne cello sonatas at the St. Petersburg Philharmonia Hall, and the Hungarian premiere of the Bax sonata on Budapest Radio and Television. He is also a proponent of the works of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, whose cello concerto he performed under Neil Varon. Mr. Schlechtriem also performed for Korngold’s memorial concert in 1997 as well as playing Nikolai Miaskovsky’s cello concerto in Münster in 2000. He gave his Japanese debut in 2004 at several of Japan’s most important concert venues.
