At the start of the winter semester 2005/06, Stefan Engels was appointed Professor for Organ Performance at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. He has served as cantor, organist and artistic director of the Church Music Concerts at St. Cornelius Viersen-Dülken/Lower Rhine (1986–1991) and as University Organist at Northwestern University in Chicago (1997–1999). From 1999–2005 he was Associate Professor of Organ at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. He is the artistic director of the Jordan International Organ Competition in Columbus, Ohio. His international breakthrough came in 1998 when he won the Gold Medal at the Calgary International Organ Competition. Stefan Engels is much in demand internationally as a teacher and concert organist. In 2005, Vol. 1 of his world premiere recording of the complete organ works by Sigfrid Karg-Elert was released in what will be an approximately 16-disc series.
